First Steps Nepal community education programmes reach out to families in the school community.

We offer a range of services for local people.

Parent education

Parents are a child’s first teacher and serve as a role model for the developing child. This programme consists of workshops for Nepali parents on their important role in their child’s life.


Workshop topics include:

  • the importance of play for young children

  • the role of parents as a child’s first educator

  • healthy foods for children

  • practical home safety

Menstrual Hygiene Management

This programme aims to helps girls feel confident and ready to learn at school when they have their period. Female teachers are empowered to advocate for their students in improving hygiene facilities at their school.


The programme consists of:

  • engaging with school leadership to improve the toilet experience for menstruating girls

  • teaching girls how to sew their own reusable sanitary pads out of comfortable, absorbent fabric.

  • running structured lessons for teachers and older girls covering the facts about menstruation and cultural taboos

  • holding informal conversation sessions to answer any questions or concerns from the girls

Leadership Training

Schools going through change need strong leaders who support their teachers, inspire pride and are active in their school community. First Steps Leadership Training consists of workshop sessions specifically tailored to village school head teachers and management committees.


Training topics include:

  • Identifying your leadership style

  • Practical goal setting

  • Effective school leadership

  • Time management techniques

  • Importance of supporting your team
